Luang Pho Yai from Thailand became such a popular man on the internet after clips of him went viral on TikTok with rumors claiming he's over 163 years old. But not even the man himself is able to prove it as his birth certificate can no longer be verified.

But these videos and pictures of the Thai monk are very real and Luang Pho Yai really is over 100 years old.

The person who can confirm that is his granddaughter Auyary KH. The woman shared about her grandfather on her social media the first time to record his recovery journey after falling down and breaking a hip bone. But the man's popularity shot up to the family's surprise with people unable to stop themselves from wondering how old is the man.
She's also confirmed that her grandfather is actually 109 years old instead of the rumored 163.

The page has also continued to rise in popularity, and Auyary has over 798.5k followers on TikTok now, many eager to follow the monk's journey. But unfortunately, Auyary also sees many negative and cruel jokes made by people of the monk's age. Yet, that doesn't dismiss the fact that there are also many genuinely concerned and interested in the man's life.
Luang Pho Yai has also since gotten much better. He's been eating and is able to do simple exercises on his bed.
Luang Pho Yai did not do any self-mummification that were rumored, but what is that?

Self-mummification is practiced, albeit rarely, by Buddhist monks in Japan. It is also called shoukusibutsu and is considered extreme in practice as it sees the monks go through dehydration on top of abstaining completely from fat. The last step would be the monks entering a pine box buried in the ground where they meditate until their last breath.
The oldest verified person alive right now is 119-year-old Kane Tanaka from Japan. She lives in a nursing home located in Fukuoka, Japan.

The oldest man alive is Juan Vicente Pérez Mora from Venezuela. While Jeanne Louise Calment from France is the oldest verified person ever alive. Jeanne was born in 1875 and passed away in 1997 at the age of 122 years.
We pray for Luong to live healthily for even much longer and, who knows, becomes the next living legend!
