Pet owners always dress up their pets be it cats or dogs but have you ever thought of dressing up your tortoise? But well, seems like now you can because Katie Bradley, an artist, illustrator and an avid tortoise rescuer from Vancouver in the U.S., has a passion for crocheting adorable tortoise cozies. The artist has 7 rescued tortoise and has rehabilitated and re-located even more. Katie has been hand-crocheting cozies for tortoises since 2012 and is selling them on Etsy to raise some extra funds for her ‘tortoise budget’. And their outfits can be as creative as you want. A cheeseburger? Done. A Christmas tree? Of course! And how about a birthday candle? Definitely. She also started donating 10% of her income from the shop to International Reptile Rescue in Oregon.
"They should be used under supervision, shouldn’t be used near a heat source, and because tortoises are cold-blooded, obviously don’t replace an external heat source. Tortoise absorbs UVB through the skin on their legs and head, so as long as they don’t wear a cozy all the time, it won’t hurt the tortoise to have a stroll in the yard dressed," Katie said.
