The Japanese term “Otaku” can really mean having a close obsessive level of interest in any hobby, even though it now generally used worldwide to refer to anyone who is a super fan of anime, manga, and/or video games.

Despite the aforementioned, an Otaku is much more in fashion and even somewhat openly celebrated in 2020 than it was back in the days. On the other hand, there still remains a bit of stereotype regarding how an otaku might look aesthetically given the time they dedicate to their hugely sedentary hobbies.
