this modern age, it’s rare to find a home without a wardrobe, a bed or a couch
in it. But, our forefathers used the aforementioned in slightly different ways than
we are presently doing now.

embark on deep research about the everyday lives of our forefathers.

#1 Only The Privileged Could Lie Down On A Sofa

Earlier,
it’s believed that only rich men could lie on sofas, mainly because Women,
Children and Slaves were supposed to sit on stone benches. However, the Romans
were the first to use sofas in Europe.

objects, including statues of gods, the
dolls of girls who got married, and the locks of hair from young men,
concluding a rite of passage into manhood are mostly stored in wardrobes by our
ancestors. Presently, it’s used in storing clothes and food.
#3 Forks Were Believed To Have Been Invented By The Devil

Forks
initially has two prongs and was mainly used to spike pieces of food. It’s
interesting that it was also first considered to be a devil’s weapon, hence it
was prohibited. Nevertheless, forks have become a common part of the
aristocratic lifestyle.
#4 Only The Royalties Were Permitted To Use Umbrella

Invented
in China and Egypt, Umbrella was considered as a symbol of power to be used only
by royalties. At that time, an umbrella weighs 4pounds and reaches a 5-foot length.
#5 The Communal Sleeping Was A Common Practice

Hosts
and guests usually sleep in the same bed while the middle space was normally
reserved for a woman and her husband. Single beds were not so common.

a wristwatch gift to Queen Elizabeth in 1571, wristwatches were named ‘bracelet-watches
and produced mainly for women. It, however, became fashionable for men in The 1900s.

#10 A Rope Near Each Toilet In Public Restroom But Not Flushing

The
first introduced toilets were open without partitions. They don’t have windows,
hence the darkness helped guests to stay anonymous. A rope was near each seat,
but it wasn’t flushing. An individual would grab at it if they fell into a hole
in the bench. Most times, drunk men were
regular guests of these public toilets.
