What are the responsibilities of parents? A lot of people can agree that parents are supposed to provide food and shelter for their children. They also need to provide them with education and in many countries, mandatory education is typically affordable and even free. Yet, despite fulfilling all those things, there are still many parents out there who fail to fulfill one last thing: love.

Children do grow up well if they are fed nutritious food. But whether or not that child will become a happy, healthy and working adult depends largely on how the parents treat him during all those times. Children require a lot of love and care because they develop personalities, conscience, and judgment by observing the people they spend the most time with family. But sadly, there are many children remain neglected and Jeric r. Rivas is just another sad example of that.

Rivas uploaded the short story of his life leading up to his graduation ceremony on Facebook and he was broken for a short period of time because his parents, again, decided to skip out an important day for him.

4 years of sweat and tears has led Jeric r. Rivas to this important day where he is finally, officially, a Bachelor of Science in Criminology. Yet, on this supposedly happy and achieving day, Rivas broke into tears and looked so destroyed.

His parents, again, did not make it to his important day, and this is one that marks a new journey for him.

Rivas is a smart and achieving student. Ever since he was in grade school, he has been given awards left and right, but he wasn't happy like that.

Rivas has been on these situations a lot, but every each time, it gets worse because Rivas is bothered. When he was in sixth grade, there was no one beside him to accompany him on stage and hang the medal around his neck.

There was even once when his friend's parent accompanied him on stage just to get the medal.

This time, Jeric R. Rivas is beginning a new chapter in his life as he's officially graduated from the University. Rivas is loved by the professors for he is a diligent and kind student with good grades. Yet, again, we don't see Rivas' parents standing beside him.

His professors care about him a lot and would occasionally invite him to their house since they understand his financial situations. A lot of these professors are like his second family and to his surprise, they went up the stage to accompany him as he is given his certificate.

Rivas hugged one of them, saying how it really helped him calm down and feel relieved.

Rivas has also been doing all kind of jobs just to pay the tuition fee. And so, Rivas ended his post:

"sa magulang ko , na hanggang ngayon di parin nila ako matanggap sa buhay nila ito napo ako ngayon,, thank you dahil jan graduate na ako…."

"To my parents, who up until today could not accept me in their life, if you’re reading this, this is me now and I hope I made you proud…"
